The Junction Internet LLC – 1996 to present

Owner and founder of this company. Specializing in high speed wireless Internet service. Currently have over 2000 customers and over 35 towers and repeaters. We also provide other services including consulting, networking, wiring, phone systems, and hosting.

  • Manage a staff of 10 employees.
  • Maintain all servers: Accounting, radius authentication, email (qmail), active directory (Windows 2007 Server), network monitoring (Whats Up Gold), groupware and calendering (Open X-Change), customer and A/R software (Rodopi),
  • Partnering with municipalities and libraries for expansion of broadband coverage. Very extensive knowledge of wireless (802.11) networking, including radio frequency (RF) propagation and coverage engineering.

Notable Projects

  • Craig County Courthouse – 2006 Very extensive wiring project involving setting up data and phone wiring for the new Craig County Courthouse. The job included 560 phone and network cable drops. Setup included the data closet with cable management and all Ethernet routers and switches. We currently maintain this network to date.
  • Craig County Detention Center – 2008 Wiring and cable project for over 80 network, phone and video drops. Project also included setting up data closet, cable management, switches and routers. We also maintain this network to date.
  • Vinita Public Schools – Alternative School Building – 2010 Small wiring project involved repairing badly damaged cables under this mobile building. Repaired over 20 damaged cables. Project also included cleaning up all loose wiring under building using fasteners and J-hooks. Project was completed within 3 working days.

Doctors Optical Supply – Vinita, OK 1989-1997

Systems Engineer – DOS was a full service eye care and optical lab that did over 12 million in sales yearly. Doctors Optical had two local offices and three remote offices in Houston, Denver, and Amarillo. The business owner, Dr. James Butner eventually sold his business in 2004. DOS maintained a computer system with over 60 dumb terminals connected to a SCO Unix computer. I became extremely proficient at the Unix operating system and did many programming projects. Almost all software was developed in-house.

  • Designed and wrote the accounts receivable and billing software using Unify database and 4GL programing.
  • Overhauled and redesigned the existing inventory and control system for the contact lens distributor.
  • Designed and wrote the inventory and invoicing system for the full-service optical lab.
  • Implemented barcoding and barcode readers into the existing system.
  • Responsible for all peripherals, servers, computers, printers and phone system.
  • Drastically cut costs by implementing an automatic data import of billing information electronically. Until then, all data was entered manually. What took several days to complete now was finished within a few hours.
  • Was always looking for ways to automate and stream-line business.

Notable Side Project

  • The owner started a very unique side business in 1994. The project was part of a state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse. I was in charge of engineering and programing an embedded computer that would perform data acquisition and control for the greenhouse. Wrote a 5000 line C program that controlled temperature, humidity, fans, water coolers and heaters. In addition, it controlled solenoid valves that turned water and nutrient solutions on and off.

  • For a Pennsylvania P&C Carrier – Assisted in the assessment of the current core policy management system. The client requested replacement options. In order to fulfill this request a full understanding of the current and future functionality was necessary. This was accomplished by determining the current technology environment, gathering current and future requirements through detailed interviews with client business and IT personel.
  • For a East Coast Insurance Software Company – Performed as an expert witness in a lawsuit with an insurance company. Used experience with the software product and industry standard development practices to evaluate configuration code and email exchanges.
  • For a Michigan Workers Comp Carrier – Assisted in the documentation of requirements for the Guidewire ClaimCenter claims management system as a business analyst. Used the knowledge of ClaimCenter and past Workers Comp projects to assist the business units in defining needs and requirements
  • For a Kentuky Personal Auto and Home Owners Carrier – Led a Guidewire approved training class for configuration of the Guidewire ClaimCenter 4.0 claims management system as a certified functional trainer.
  • For a California Commercial Lines Carrier – Assisted in the selection of new policy management software, agency management software and general ledger software.   • For a Maryland P&C Carrier – Collaborated with client resources in the design of a dynamic temporal insurance database and application using .NET, ADO.NET, MS SQL. This included interviewing end users and management to identify all requirements. Requirements and design concepts were documented and returned to client for review.
  • For an East Coast P&C Carrier – Managed and developed claims reports from a SQL server insurance database. Met with subject matter experts to gather requirements for claim status reports. Developed the claims reports using Crystal Reports. Worked with client to ensure business requirements were met.
  • For an Oklahoma Manufacturer – Managed and developed an add-on application to provide quoting for parts. Interviewed client and reviewed existing software system to gather requirements. Designed and developed front-end and interfaces to utilize Exact Software’s Max system for quoting. This project used C#.NET and the Pervasive SQL 7.9 database engine. Worked with client to test, debug and enhance quoting system.

  • For a Maryland P&C Carrier – Managed a team that developed 50 states of Commercial Property and General Liability in a packaged policy administration system. Worked with client to gather and define requirements for data capture, rating rules and GUI content and flow. Configured application to meet client’s requirements. This included modifying the application to add data fields, configuring presentation layer and define rating rules and edits.
  • For a Pennsylvania P&C Carrier – Managed a team of four programmers and three business analysts that developed nine states of Commercial Package Policies in a packaged policy administration system. Worked with client to gather and define requirements for data capture, rating rules and GUI content and flow. Configured application to meet client’s requirements. This included modifying the application to add data fields, configuring presentation layer and define rating rules and edits. Worked with clients QA department to ensure business requirements were met.
  • For a variety of P&C Carriers – Participated at different levels in the development of the following lines of business in the Phoenix policy management system; personal auto, commercial auto, commercial package policies, general liability, commercial property, commercial inland marine, crime, and workers’ compensation. This included working with client to gather and define requirements for data capture, rating rules and GUI content and flow. Modifying the application to add data fields, configuring presentation layer and defining rating rules and edits. Working with clients QA department to ensure business requirements were met.
  • For a variety of P&C Carriers – Programmed Advanced Rating Technology (ART) system algorithms for rating, underwriting, endorsements, and field edits in the Phoenix policy management system. Worked with client to define requirements for rating rules. Developed test cases to assist with QA.
  • For a Pennsylvania P&C Carrier – Managed and developed an automated underwriting system. Met with subject matter experts to gather and define requirements for underwriting rules. Designed and developed an underwriting edits application to streamline the insurance underwriting process using VB6, COM and XML.   • For a Florida Home Owners Carrier – Developed catastrophic loss reports. Interviewed client to gather and define requirements for reports. Developed and tested reports using MS SQL Server, T-SQL and Crystal Reports.
  • For internal R&D – Participated in the development of a prototype application to extract, analyze, and report on policy and claims data from the Phoenix database using MS SQL, T-SQL. Analyzed data and data structure to determine information to be extracted. Tested different extraction methods.
  • For internal R&D – Led training classes for the Phoenix system and Advanced Rating Technology (ART). Developed curriculum for training classes. Used the curriculum to train additional consultants and to lead classes at two client sites.
